DUBOIS – DuBois City will be renewing their contract with Open Flow Energy for its natural gas needs. The contract is currently for one year.
The city will be billed monthly at two rates. Of the gas used, 75 percent of the natural gas will be charged at a locked rate of $4.036/Dt. The remaining 25 percent will be charged based on the NYMEX “settle” price plus a basis price of $0.793/Dt. The previous locked in price for the city was $5.395/Dt.
According to City Manager John “Herm” Suplizio, he was told these were the lowest prices for natural gas in 30years. He added that the prices had fallen enough that the city is now paying more for electricity per month than for gas.
DuBois citizen Dr. Raphael Evins approached the council to take as strong stand as the city legally could against seismic testing on the watershed. Evins approached the council with fears that seismic testing for natural gas could disrupt the city’s water quality.
Another DuBois citizen, and regular at the city and Sandy Township meetings, Darlene Marshall notified the council of the potential moratorium on injection wells. Marshall has been updating and pushing the council to give support against the injection well planned for Highland Street Extension in the city, within a mile of 97 homes.
Suplizio gave an update of the DuBois City’s water well project. Work has begun to place the waterlines from the wells in the ground. This part of the process is expected to be completed within a few months.
