PHILIPSBURG – The Philipsburg Revitalization Corp. is seeking requests for proposals from the private sector for the development of the former Philips Hotel.
The corporation is looking to capitalize on $3 million — money that needs to be privately matched — earmarked for Philipsburg’s revitalization in the 2006-07 Pennsylvania budget.
Responses are expected within 45 days.
“It’s really a win-win situation for the right company and the people of Philipsburg,” said Main Street Manager Lori Falce.
The group announced last month that it was considering transforming the building into a multiuse facility. Plans include restoring the first-floor restaurant and seventh-floor ballroom.
Other floors could include office space, hotel and rental units.
“The idea is an amalgam of uses, some old and some new, but all with a great deal of possibility for Philipsburg’s growth,” Falce said.
A market analysis has confirmed the potential of the Philipsburg group’s vision for the building.
The building served as a personal care home until the Presbyterian Homes Inc. Windy Hill Village complex in nearby Rush Township was completed last year. The building remains the property of PHI.
