EBENSBURG – Tim Houser, a local funeral director and community activist, announced that he is a candidate for State Senate in the 35th District.
A 30 year resident of Ebensburg, Tim was born and raised in neighboring Tyrone. After graduating from Pennsylvania State University, he began his career as a high school music teacher, while working towards a graduate degree in Education Administration. After earning a degree from the Pittsburgh Institute of Mortuary Science, Tim began a career in the private sector, eventually becoming owner and president of Askew-Houser Funeral Homes.
“My candidacy for State Senate is about reducing the size and scope of government and moving our economy in the right direction. The governor and the Republican leadership in the General Assembly have initiated that process; I plan to help continue it. As a small business owner in the district, I know that families are still struggling to recover, and in order to create an environment that is conducive to job growth, we must reduce government spending and keep taxes low.”
Active in his community, Tim served as a member and past president of the very successful Ebensburg Business District Commission for 18 years and was one of the founding members of the community’s Potatofest committee. He also serves as a second responder and cook for the Dauntless Fire Company, and is a former member of the Ebensburg Rotary Club where he served as president and Paul Harris Fellow. Tim had also served as a former member of the Advisory Board for the Cambria County Area Agency on Aging and is a former trustee for the local Knights of Columbus Council. Tim and his wife are also active in many area arts programs.
“Having always been an active member of my community, I know the challenges that citizens of the 35th district are presented with. As state senator, I promise to remain an active member of the community. Only through active involvement can we truly identify and address the problems facing our community.”
Houser enjoys membership in the funeral professions’ International Order of the Golden Rule, where his firm was awarded the Silver Award for Exemplary Service in 2010. He and his wife, Marianne, reside in Ebensburg and are the parents of four children: John Paul (wife, Vanessa), a funeral director with the family firm; Joseph, a self-employed Visual Arts graduate of Penn State; Cecilia, who serves as executive director of the Cambria County Republican Party; and Claire, a self-employed professional photographer. Tim and Marianne are also proud new grandparents to their first grandchild, Sebastian.
Tim and his family are members of Holy Name Roman Catholic Church in Ebensburg.
