CLEARFIELD – The 9th annual Longaberger Basket Bingo hosted by the St. Francis School teachers will take place at the Knights of Columbus in Clearfield on Feb. 12 beginning at noon.
This fundraiser raises money for the teachers to go to the National Catholic Educator Association (NCEA) conference. In past years, the teachers have attended conferences in New Orleans, La., Anaheim, Calif. and Atlanta, Ga. In 2013, the teachers are planning on attending the conference in Houston, Texas.
The money earned from the bingo will aid in paying for the rooms, airfare and registration for the teachers who attend, said Margie Hall, Bingo Coordinator.
Since the bingo’s infancy, tickets sales have increased from selling 69 tickets in 2004, and to selling 220 in 2011.
“We have 15 prizes worth over $1,500,” Hall said. “The lowest prize value is an ‘American Work Basket’ for $35, and the highest, a ‘Holds It All Basket’ is worth $298.”
In previous years, the teachers have had a Longaberger Basket and Vera Bradley Bag bingo. In 2011 there were more bags than baskets, so this year we decided to do only baskets for the February bingo, Hall said.
“Shopping for the baskets,” Hall said is her favorite part of planning this bingo every year. “I like to see what’s new and look through current flyers and what’s online for bargains.”
In the fall, the teachers will be hosting another bingo. The funds raised from that will benefit the St. Francis Church Capital Campaign.
Tickets are $20 in advance or $25 at the door. There will be food, refreshments, 50/50 raffle and rip off tickets. Any questions or interest in purchasing tickets in advance can be directed to Janice at 761-0412 or to sfsvblbbingo@yahoo.com.
