WOODLAND – Two Illinois men were arrested after a traffic stop for speeding in a work zone revealed more counterfeit items and a fugitive from justice..
During the stop along Interstate 80 Wednesday, a consent to search was obtained and it was discovered that within Makhtar Diop’s vehicle there were 56 pairs of counterfeit Nike Air Jordan sneakers and $4,850 in cash. The sneakers and money were seized by police.
It was also discovered that the passenger, Amadou Diop, was a wanted person by Montgomery County Police Department, Rockville, Maryland, and was charged as a fugitive from justice, pending extradition.
Both men were arraigned and charged with trademark counterfeiting.
