DUBOIS – The Penn State DuBois Alumni Society is looking for some fresh ideas for area alumni activities and potential new committee and board members.
The society is comprised of individuals who have either attended or graduated from Penn State DuBois, or are Penn State University graduates who are living in the greater DuBois area. The group plans networking activities and fun Penn State related events, such as group trips to football games, homecoming and other cultural events, according to Charlene Gaus, alumni relations officer.
“You can start by attending an event and networking with other alumni. Serve on the planning committee for a particular event in which you might be interested, or you can serve as a member of the society’s board of directors,” Gaus said.
Gaus said some of the activities planned for the upcoming semester include hosting a bus trip to State College to see the Broadway performance of “CATS” at Eisenhower Auditorium in January, and the continuance of both the drive for a scholarship endowment, and the monthly social, “Where’s the Pride?” The society also plans campus career day and the annual Pioneer Alumni Reunion for alumni who have attended the DuBois campus and graduated from Penn State 50 or more years ago.
Tickets for the “CATS” matinee performance are $85 and include the bus ride, a reception at University Park, and the show on Jan. 28.
Fund-raising events are being planned, Gaus said, in order to move the society closer to the $50,000 goal in establishing an endowed scholarship fund to benefit students at Penn State DuBois. The society is currently at the $30,000 mark, she noted. The fundraisers will enable the Penn State DuBois Alumni Society to permanently endow a Trustee matching scholarship benefiting adult learners who attend the campus. The annual payout, approximately five percent, would be matched by Penn State University.
The monthly “Where’s the Pride?” gathering will resume after the holidays at Tommy D’s on the second Friday of each month beginning Jan. 12. Gaus said the Dutch treat mixers are a chance to socialize with other friends of Penn State. Contact Gaus for more information on any of these topics, or to reserve CATS tickets, at 375-4786.
