UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Petra Januskova (Ottawa, Canada) was named Big Ten Women’s Tennis Athlete of the Week for the week of Jan. 10. This marks the second time in her career that she has won the award. The junior previously earned the accolade in the fall, during the week of Sept. 28.
Januskova started the spring season off strong last week, going 3-1 in both singles and doubles matches. Against Hawaii she registered straight-set victories over Katarina Poljakova (6-3, 6-0) and partnered with Nina Sertic (Zagrab, Croatia) to defeat Poljakova and Jamie Pawid, 8-6.
In her second dual match, Januskova – who is ranked No. 96 in the preseason ITA poll – posted a resounding victory against Baylor’s fourteenth-ranked Diana Nakic, 6-2, 6-3.
Januskova is the first Nittany Lion to win the award since Sasha Abraham in April of 2007.
The junior looks to build off her success from this weekend Sat., Jan. 21, when the entire Nittany Lion team hosts a double header against UMBC and Lehigh.
