MEADVILLE — Fellow juniors, and number 2 seeds, Christian Stone and Nolan Barger of the Clearfield Bison wrestling team each won their first Tool City Wrestling Tournament title on Saturday evening at Meadville High School.
At 126, Stone made short work of his finals opponent, Kyle Shoop of Boiling Springs, by picking up a fall in 1:37, the shortest match of the championship finals.
145 pounder Barger defeated District 9 rival Tom Sleigh of DuBois for the second time this season, 4-1. Sleigh was the number one seed despite the 7-5 overtime loss to Barger back in the dual meet on December 13.
The current season and career successes of Stone and Barger can be seen with their Tool City results. Both match 12-1 records thus far this year.
Stone now has third and second place finishes the past two years, while Barger has fourth and third place finishes previous to their gold medals this year.
Also placing for the Bisons was 132 pounder Dylan Graham, who placed sixth.
Noah Cline at 106, Kody Hepfer at 160, and Jordan Lancaster at 285 made it to the second day of competition but were eliminated in their first matches.
The Bisons, runners-up last year, finished 11th in the team standings with 78 points. The 11th place finish, coincidentally, matches their final standing earlier this year in the season-opening Top Hat tourney
Clearfield (0-5) will take to the mats again Tuesday night when they travel to Bellefonte.
