HARRISBURG – John Murray and David Pitkins have been appointed as regional deputy secretaries, Secretary of Corrections John E. Wetzel announced.
“John and Dave are professionals who are experienced in a variety of correctional operation areas, as well as valued and respected by their co-workers,’’ Wetzel said.
“With more than 54 combined years of knowledge, they will add a fresh perspective to the regional team and continue the department on its course of increasing efficiencies and reducing costs while maintaining safe and secure facilities,” Wetzel added.
Murray will supervise the central region of the state, which includes 10 state institutions: Camp Hill, Chester, Coal Township, Dallas, Frackville, Graterford, Mahanoy, Phoenix, Retreat and Waymart.
During his 31-year career with the department, Murray has worked his way up through the ranks from corrections officer and counselor to unit and facility management. In 2010, he was named superintendent of SCI Camp Hill.

During his 23-year career, Pitkins moved from chaplaincy program director to deputy superintendent for centralized services and deputy superintendent for facility management. In 2009, he was named superintendent of SCI Laurel Highlands.
