After a 4-18 mark in 2010-11 and losing six seniors in Courtney Bachelier, Taylor Bumbarger, Brittany Carter, Paige McCracken, Kate Norris and Katie Wriglesworth the Lady Tide will be seeking more “W’s” this time around.
And McCracken likes what he sees thus far saying, “I am hoping that we can be much more competitive this season. A lot of these girls have varsity experience which should help us relax.”
Then the Lady Tide mentor added, “I am also confident we can put together a winning year with a team that I believe can potentially put points on the board.”
Savannah Strickland, the lone returning senior and points leader, will anchor the playmaker spot once again with Rebecca Johnson, a junior, playing either of the two guard positions.
Sophomores Megan McGarry and Tiara Bumbarger, coupled with freshman Ciara Strickland, will also get alot of playing time in the backcourt.
Under the bucket the Lady Tide will have at least five girls vying for playing time at this point with three juniors and two sophomores.
Tiffany Carter, Katrina Seaburn, and Kaitlynn Sass are the juniors while sophomores Kealy Wassil and Tierra Shope will be in the mix to supply Curwensville with board strength and hopefully scoring balance.
The Lady Tide schedule is a bittersweet one with eight of the first eleven games at home. At the end however the Curwensville girls will travel to the enemy site five of the last seven games.
McCracken finished his pre-season assessment with, “Hopefully we are going to be a quicker, stronger team and be able to challenge whoever steps on the court against us. Of course we still are a pretty young squad with one senior and four juniors. It will certainly be a maturity thing for us and I hope we do actually mature as quick as possible.”
McCracken will be assisted once again this season by Chris McGarry.
Curwensville will open their season Friday at home when the Lady Vikings of Glendale come to Patton Hall with the junior varsity game starting at 6 pm and the varsity tilt to immediately follow.
