COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Junior placekicker Parker Herrington of Clearfield booted a career-high three field goals and one extra point for the 10 points that made the difference as Air Force (5-4) retained the coveted Commander-in-Chief Trophy with a 24-14 victory over Army (3-6) Saturday afternoon.
His performance was recognized by the Mountain West Conference Monday when he was named Special Teams Player of the Week.
A capacity Falcon Stadium crowd of 46,709 saw Herrington make field goals of 37 and 39 yards plus the PAT in the third quarter when the Falcons erased the Black Knights’ 14-0 halftime lead to grab a 21-14 lead.
Herrington’s 39-yard field goal accounted for the only points in the final period as the Falcons completed the sweep of Navy and Army for the second year in a row.
The 6-½, 185-pounder has multiple field goals in five games.
He’s 12-for-13, with the lone miss a 49-yarder, and has scored 63 points to lead the Falcons.
Herrington ranks second among kickers and fifth overall in the conference.

CLARION – Redshirt senior safety Shawn Sopic of Curwensville tied his career high with 11 tackles and forced a fumble for the second time this season while redshirt junior linebacker Nate Sipes of Curwensville had eight stops for the Clarion (2-8) defense that was unable to make a 38-14 bulge with 6:50 left in the third quarter stand up for a Senior Day win at Memorial Stadium Saturday.
Mercyhurst (4-6) roared from behind to pull out a 42-38 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division victory in front of 800 fans, scoring the winning touchdown with 32 seconds remaining.
Sopic, the defensive captain, was one of 14 seniors honored before the game.
Sipes and Sopic are Clarion’s top tacklers with 88 and 60 stops, respectively.
Sipes has broken up two passes and recovered two fumbles, while Sopic has one interception, one pass broken up and two forced fumbles.
In the PSAC, Sipes is first in tackles assists with 57 and fourth in total stops.

LOCK HAVEN – Starting redshirt sophomore wide receiver Jesse Hoover of Curwensville caught a team-high five passes for 43 yards and freshman running back Jed Greslick of Grampian had one pass reception for two yards and averaged 20.3 yards on seven kickoff returns as Lock Haven (0-9) ended its home schedule with a 56-5 loss to Indiana University of Pennsylvania (6-3) Saturday.
Hoover also had his first career tackle on one of IUP’s five interceptions in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference game that drew 1,473 fans into Hubert Jack Stadium.
Hoover leads the Bald Eagles with 34 receptions and is second with 394 yards. He has scored two touchdowns.
Greslick has returned 21 kickoffs for a team-high 499 yards and 23.8 average. He also has nine carries for 26 yards
Lock Haven is 0-7 in the PSAC-West with a conference-record losing streak at 41 games that also is the longest in NCAA football.

DELAWARE, Ohio – Starting junior defensive back David Kalgren of Curwensville registered six tackles and returned one punt four yards and two kickoffs 20 yards for Oberlin (2-7) in a last-minute 30-23 North Coast Athletic Conference loss to host Ohio Wesleyan (3-6) in front of a Shelby Field crowd of 1,241 Saturday afternoon.
The Yeomen, who never trailed until the Battling Bishops scored with 48 seconds on the clock, skidded to 1-4 in the NCAC with their sixth consecutive setback.
For the season, Kalgren sports 41 tackles, including 35 solo stops, two interceptions and five passes broken up.
As Oberlin’s No. 1 kick returner, he has averaged 20.3 yards on 24 kickoff runbacks and 7.7 yards on seven punt returns.

WILLIAMSPORT – Starting junior wide receiver Jarrin Campman of Clearfield picked up nine yards on two pass receptions for Lycoming (7-2) in a tough 28-21 Middle Atlantic Conference loss to No. 9-ranked Delaware Valley (9-0) at David Person Field Saturday afternoon.
His seven-yarder to the DV-19 helped set up a Warrior touchdown that tied the score for the third time at 21-21 with 1:01 remaining, but the visiting Aggies disappointed the partisan crowd of 2,986 by zipping downfield to get the winning TD with just 13 seconds left.
After failing to create a three-way tie with Delaware Valley and Widener at 6-1 atop the MAC, Lycoming slipped into third place at 5-2.
Campman has 25 receptions for 316 yards, both totals second on the team, with two touchdowns. He has one punt return for 11 yards.

BETHLEHEM – Junior running back Isiah Morgan of Clearfield caught one pass for four yards in Juniata’s 28-7 loss to host Moravian (2-7) with 684 fans on hand at Rocco Calvo Field Saturday afternoon.
The Eagles tumbled to 0-9 in the Centennial Conference and 0-9 overall with a school-record 21-game streak.
Morgan has played in eight games with 24 carries for 47 yards and three pass receptions for 21 yards.

LORETTO – Freshman linebacker Andrew Redden of Clearfield saw action on punt and kickoff units for St. Francis (2-8) Saturday when Monmouth (5-4) spoiled Homecoming for the Red Flash with a touchdown midway through the fourth quarter that punctuated a 48-45 offensive show in front of 1,712 fans at DeGol Field.
St. Francis, which had gone ahead 45-41 with 12:44 remaining, was unable to respond to Monmouth’s seventh TD and fell to 1-6 in the Northeast Conference. Monmouth is tied for third place at 4-2.

MEN’S SWIMMING
PITTSBURGH – Junior Mark Krchnak of Clearfield won one individual event and placed second in another for Clarion (1-2) in a 167-133 loss at Carnegie Mellon Saturday afternoon.
He was victorious in the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:00.29 and second in the 200 breast in 2:13.51.
Krchnak also placed sixth in the 200 individual medley in 2:07.47 and swam the breaststroke leg for he 200 medley foursome that placed second in 1:38.09.
