PHILIPSBURG – The Philipsburg-based state police today announced they will be initiating a accident reduction effort.
In a press release, Cpl. Robert F. Thomas said the Philipsburg barracks investigated 29 accidents during the month of October. He said of those, the “main causes” were driving too fast for road conditions and inattentive driving.
In addition, he reminded motorists that they’re to maintain a safe following distance behind the vehicle ahead of them. Distractions, such as cellular phones, should not be used while a vehicle is in operation.
“If a call or text message is received (and must be addressed), the safest thing to do is to pull over,” Thomas said. He said motorists are required by Pennsylvania law to wear their seatbelts and all occupants should at all times.
He added, “It’s been proven that seatbelt usage saves lives.”
