Donald J. Rowles, 90, of Clearfield, passed away Friday afternoon at the Clearfield Hospital.
Born May 29, 1921 in Faunce, he was the son of Warren Lee “Fuzzy” and Della (Dunlap) Rowles. Mr. Rowles was a coal miner having retired from the Glen Irvin Coal Corp. He also was a U S Army Veteran of the Second World War, serving in the Army Air Corp.
On Jan. 23, 1946 he wed the former Hannah Malista Selfridge who preceded him in death on May 23, 2005. He was also preceded in death by his parents, a step-son Clair Kuntz and 3 sisters Naomi Rowles, Virginia Hurley, and Alma Rodkey.
Surviving are 4 children Nancy V. Confer and her husband Walter G. of Osceola Mills, Lucille I. Peoples and her husband Robert of Curwensville, and Helen M. Haney and her husband Randy and Ronald James Rowles both of Clearfield. Also surviving are 2 step-children Thelma Grant and her husband James of Lancaster and Mary Miller and her husband Joe of New York.
He is also survived by 6 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, a sister Glenna Jean Lindamuth of New York and a brother Francis Clyde Rowles and his wife Carol of Clearfield.
Funeral Services for Mr. Rowles will be held at the Chester C. Chidboy Funeral Home, Inc. of Curwensville on Nov. 1 at 1:00 p.m., with the Reverend Stephen Shields officiating. Interment will be in the Mt. Zion Cemetery Olanta, PA.
Friends will be received at the funeral home on Oct. 31 from 6 to 8 p.m., and Tuesday from 11:00 a.m. until time of services. Military Honors will be accorded at the funeral home by members of the joint Clearfield American Legion and Clearfield VFW Honor Guard.
