UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — After helping Penn State defeat West Virginia this past Saturday, Nittany Lion junior Amy Modglin (Fort Myers, Fla.) has been named Big Ten Women’s Swimmer of the Week, the conference office announced on Tuesday.
Modglin won three events this Saturday, which included the 200-yard backstroke (1:57.68), 400-yard individual medley (4:18.74) and the 400-yard freestyle relay (3:31.65) against the Mountaineers. Her 200-yard backstroke time ranks second in the NCAA this year and is an NCAA provisional qualifying mark. This is the fourth weekly conference honor of Modglin’s career.
Penn State cruised to a 137-96 victory over West Virginia during the Nittany Lions’ first action of the season on Saturday afternoon at the McCoy Natatorium. Penn State won 10 of 13 events, including one relay event.
Penn State will return to action on Nov. 4 and 5 as it heads to Auburn and Georgia Tech for a pair of duals. The Lions will be back in Happy Valley on Nov. 18 as they host Indiana and Virginia.
