CURWENSVILLE – Issues with a sign in sheet for visitors to Curwensville Borough’s garage were discussed at the borough’s council meeting on Monday.
The sign in sheet, which was approved in August, is for those visiting the garage, and includes other employees not in the street department and business representatives.
Officer Mark Kelly asked council if it was necessary for the police officers to sign in when entering the garage. Kelly indicated there were police items in the garage, and that entering and exiting the garage required multiple uses of the sign in sheet.
Mayor Holly Komonczi stated that she was for the officers having to sign in to verify they were there and why they were there.
“I have no problem signing in,” said Police Chief Dave Johnston. “But what happens to the people who don’t?”
Both Johnston and Kelly indicated that people go to the garage and don’t sign in. Johnston said when he sees that happen, he radios down and informs the visitors, there on official business or otherwise, that they have come to the borough building and sign in.
Council Vice-President Sam Ettaro called out the road crew for not signing people in. He indicated they were using the garage as their own clubhouse.
One suggestion thrown out there was that those caught not signing in be charged for trespassing. No official action was taken on the suggestion.
