UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Penn State freshman Taylor Herold (Fredericksburg, Va.) has claimed Big Ten Co-Freshman of the Week. Herold was a key part of the Nittany Lions’ 4-3 win over Northwestern on Saturday, as she scored the game winning goal in overtime.
Herold is the second Nittany Lion to earn Co-Freshman of the Week this season, joining Jenna Chrismer (Mountain Top, Pa.).
In the 76th minute, Herold entered the game as Penn State was looking to apply more pressure on offense. Down in Northwestern’s end, junior Kelsey Amy (Sweet Valley, Pa.) fired a shot that just went wide. However, as the Wildcats played the ball back in, sophomore Lauren Purvis (Maple Glen, Pa.) gained control in the corner. She dribbled the ball along the baseline and played a beautiful ball to Herold who was right in front of the cage. She banged it right by the keeper to give the Lions a 4-3 victory.
