Grand Opening of Clearfield County Alliance Park Celebrated
CLEARFIELD – Five years ago, FCI announced its closure in Clearfield. On Thursday, county and state officials, municipal leaders, members of the public and business leaders from around the area turned out for the grand opening of the Clearfield County Alliance Park, former site of FCI.
“It’s a culmination of a long effort,” said John Shimko, chairman of the Clearfield County Economic Development Authority. “Today we’re here to recognize a public/private partnership to renovate and reopen the facility.”

Morrisdale Teenager Reported Missing
MORRISDALE – Clearfield-based state police reported that a Morrisdale teenager has been missing since Wednesday.
According to police, Trey Nelson, 14 of Myers Road, left his residence on Wednesday shortly after coming home from school. He was last seen running from a friend’s house on Mopar Country Lane in Morrisdale around 7:15 p.m. Nelson did not return to the residence.
Police stated that he did not have shoes on when he fled the residence. on Mopar Country Lane.

Fatal Accident Claims Life of Teenager
HUSTON TOWNSHIP – A fatal accident on Oct. 19 claimed the life of a Summerhill teenager.
DuBois-based state police reported that a vehicle driven by David James Wess, 47 of Summerhill, was traveling north on state Route 153, descending a grade. While attempting to negotiate a slight left cure, David Wess reportedly lost control of his vehicle on the wet road. His vehicle traveled partially off the east edge of SR 153.

MRSA Case Confirmed at Curwensville School District
CURWENSVILLE – One case of Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus, or MRSA has been confirmed at the Curwensville Area High School.
District Superintendent Norman Hatten said that one case has been confirmed and that the district informed students, parents and district employees. Hatten said the district has been in contact with the Department of Health and the Center for Disease Control.

Clearfield School Board Hears MRSA Update
CLEARFIELD – Clearfield Area School District Superintendent Denise Keltz told board members Monday night that a serious issue was averted thanks to the work of the district’s staff.
On Friday, a high school student was found to have methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (or MRSA), a type of infection that has been found to not respond to a certain family of antibiotics.
Keltz thanked the work of the custodial and cleaning stff at the district, which was already in the process of disinfecting after hearing of a case of MRSA at the DuBois Area School District.

Attempted Armed Robbery Reported at Kwik Fill in Decatur Township
PHILIPSBURG – Clearfield-based state police report that an armed robbery was attempted at the Kwik Fill in Decatur Township Friday morning.
According to the report, a young woman with a hoodie over her head walked into the store and pulled a knife on the 62-year-old manager. The manager grabbed the woman’s arm and a scuffle ensued. The woman then fled the scene, getting into a maroon car.

Safety Discussed at West Branch School Board Meeting
ALLPORT – With the events of Oct. 12 still on their minds, members of the West Branch Area Board of Education and the public discussed concerns about school safety at Monday’s regular school board meeting.
State police at Clearfield said two males were reported to be carrying a long gun and a handgun in a grassy area near the playground of the school at about 2 p.m. or 2:30 p.m. on Oct. 12.
Witnesses to the incident reported that one of the males pointed a weapon toward the playground area of the school.

Grampian Man Jailed on More Than 130 Sex Counts
CLEARFIELD – A Grampian man is in Clearfield County Jail in lieu of $100,000 bail after being arraigned on charges that he sexually assaulted a girl over a two-and-a-half-year period.
William E. May Sr., 38, is alleged to have started assaulting the girl in 2005 when she was 7 years old.

Kindergartner Uses 911 Skills to Save Mom
CLEARFIELD – A kindergarten student at Clearfield Area School District’s Centre Elementary put his knowledge to the test, and as a result, likely saved his mother’s life.
The 5-year-old boy, according to Centre Elementary Principal Dr. Mark Dymond, called 911 to tell operators there that his mother was sick. Because of what he learned in school two days prior, he was able to give his telephone number, his address and even unlock the door when help arrived.
A letter from the boy’s mother revealed that she had suffered a seizure and was not responsive.

Police Called to DuBois Regional Airport for Gun Incident
DUBOIS – State police and other law enforcement agencies are investigating two people who attempted to circumvent security at the DuBois Regional Airport on Monday afternoon.
According to DuBois-based state police, a 25-year-old man attempted to carry a loaded 9MM pistol through airport security. The handgun was found in his carry-on bag by TSA workers using an x-ray machine.
