Smoke Run–The newly formed Moshannon Valley Community Education Foundation is pleased to announce its first event: The Knights Victory Race will be held on Saturday, Oct. 1st at Muddy Run Raceway on Rte 453 in Smoke Run.  The race is a combination of a 5K (3.1 miles to walk, run, or crawl) and obstacle course involving logs, water, rope, and mud! The competitive heat begins at 10 a.m., and additional heats will begin every 30 minutes thereafter until 1:30 p.m. You don’t have to be an athlete to complete the course: do the race at your own pace! Spectators can watch for free.
A $3 parking fee will be collected from racers and spectators, and Jerry Lewis, owner of Muddy Run Raceway, will donate these funds to the Make A Wish Foundation. Local musicians along with bands from Pittsburgh will provide live music, and food and prizes will be available for all to enjoy. Race times will be recorded by the Nittany Running Club of State College, and team scores will be based on individual members’ times. Bring your team in costume and be eligible to win prizes for costume and team spirit! A special heat involving just a portion of the course will be offered for participants 13 and under (time to be announced). Parents must accompany the 13-and-under crowd throughout the race and complete registration and waiver forms for each participant.

The Moshannon Valley Community Education Foundation is an independent public charity dedicated to encouraging community-wide participation and philanthropy in order to enhance and expand enrichment opportunities for all students in the Moshannon Valley School District and ensure long-range financial flexibility for schools within our District. Officers were elected on May 19, 2011, and include, Debora Kruise, President, Doris Souder, Vice President, Elsie Harchak, Treasurer, and Caryn Southern, Secretary. Laura Mihalko, Joseph Cervenak, Rodney Kitko, and Sandra Zapsky serve as Board members. In August, the State recognized the Foundation as a non-profit organization.
