Mabel L. (Leaper) Elling, 85, of Beulah, RD Madera, passed away Aug. 31, 2011 at her residence.
Born on Dec. 6, 1925 at Beulah, a daughter of the late Chester Arthur and Edna Mae (Estep) Leaper.
Mabel was a 1943 graduate of the former Madera High School. She was the President of her class and was proud of the patriotism of her class.
Mabel retired as a secretary at the Moshannon Valley Elementary School on Sept. 2, 1988 after 25 years service. Prior to that she worked at the former Sylvania Plant in Houtzdale. She also worked for Landy’s Store in Mahaffey during WW II and in her early years she worked for Dr. Williams in Houtzdale.
On Nov. 9, 1943, at Cumberland, MD, she married Frank Gustav “Dutch” Elling. He preceded her in death on April 10, 2009.
Mabel is survived by a son and two daughters, Thomas E. Elling and his wife Barbara of Lock Haven; Mary Jo Campolong of Duncansville and Carol Ann Mihalko and her husband James of Beulah.
She is also survived by 10 grandchildren, Roger Elling, Michelle Spedding and her husband William, Daniel Elling and his wife Monique, Joe Campolong, III and wife Lynne, Pamela Schobel and her husband Jolan, Holly Reid and her husband Jeffrey, Timothy Campolong and his wife Kelly, James Mihalko, Jr, Melissa Shetrom and her husband Timothy and Douglas F. Mihalko and his wife Laura. 15 great grandchildren also survive.
Mabel is survived by two sisters, Frances Caldwell and Gloria Bayer Nadbath both of Fort Myers, FL. A number of nieces and nephews also survive. .
In addition to her parents and husband, Mabel was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Joe Campolong, Jr; a sister, Martha (Pat) Holmstrom and two brothers, James Roland Leaper and Chester Ray Leaper.
Friends will be received on Sept. 2 from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. and on Sept. 3 from 9-11 a.m. at the Kruise Funeral Home, Inc Ramey.
Funeral Services will be held on Sept. 3 at 11:00 a.m. in the Kruise Funeral Home, Inc., Ramey, with Pastor Dennis L. McCracken officiating. Interment will follow in the Beulah Cemetery Ramey.
