Washington D.C.–An 5.9 earthquake rocked the nation’s capital shortly before 2 p.m. Tuesday.
Thousands of workers poured out into the streets of downtown Washington, D.C., as buildings shook and lights dimmed.
There were no immediate reports of injuries and damage appeared to be slight.
Earthquakes are considered a rare occurrence in Washington.
