ALLPORT – In an effort to improve highway safety, PennDOT placed a radar-controlled speed display sign along state Route 53 in Morris Township, Clearfield County.  Â
The sign faces southbound traffic on SR 53 near the village of Allport. This area is posted with a speed limit of 45 miles per hour.Â
The speed display sign will remain on for up to three weeks and will register the speeds of vehicles traveling along that section of roadway. Â
The speed display sign uses radar to determine the speeds of oncoming traffic. Those vehicle speeds are then posted on the lighted section of the sign. Above the speed display is a speed limit sign showing the posted 45-mile-per-hour speed limit for that section of SR 53.Â
The sign was placed in this area at the request of the township.Â
