Margaretta (Alsop) Van Scoyoc, 85, of Morann, beloved wife, mother and grandmother, went to be with the Lord on July 25, 2011 at 2:39 p.m. at the Altoona Regional Health System, Altoona Hospital Campus.

She was born on Feb. 7, 1926 in Ramey, the daughter of the late James Henry and Virginia M. (Croyle) Alsop.

Margaretta was a 1944 graduate of the former Madera High School and was a licensed beautician. She operated Gretta’s Beauty Shop in Ramey for a period of time. She also served on the Gulich Twp. Election Board and volunteered with the American Red Cross. She enjoyed crocheting, working word puzzles and building puzzles. She was a wonderful homemaker.

Margaretta worked as a nurses aid at the Presbyterian Home in Philipsburg for 7 years. She was a member of the Brisbin Baptist Church and served as a Sunday School Teacher and a Teacher of Child Evangelism for a number of years.

On July 27, 2011, Margaretta and her husband Roy W. Van Scoyoc would have celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary. They were married in the Williamsport United Methodist Church by Margaretta’s uncle, Rev. Robert Croyle. Margaretta is by her husband. They had six children; the late Roy Wesley Van Scoyoc, Sr and his wife Debbie and their children, Edward and John; Dennis A. Van Scoyoc, Sr and his wife Linda of Hershey, and their children, Dennis, Jr and Rebecca; Virginia L. Demko of Madera and her children, Lori Ann and Bryan; Jo Ann Carowick and her husband, Michael of Huntingdon and their children, Angela, Thomas and Emily; Susan K. Gummo of Tyrone and her children Scott and Benjamin; and the late Ronald G. Van Scoyoc, Sr and his wife Laura and their children, Ronald, Jr, Heidi, Jessica and Christopher.  Thirteen grandchildren also survives.

In addition to her parents and two sons, Margaretta was preceded in death by two bothers, James and Arthur Alsop.

Friends will be received on Wednesday. from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. and on Thursday, from 9-10:30 a.m. at the Krusie Funeral Home, Inc. Ramey.

Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, at 11:00 a.m. in the Brisbin Baptist Church,with Pastor Mark Melhorn officiating. Interment will follow in the Beulah Cemetery, Ramey.
