CLEARFIELD – The Lawrence Township Board of Supervisors conditionally approved the plans for the Integrated Water Technologies (IWT) Treatment Plant in Fireman’s Commerce Park in Clearfield at their regular meeting on July 19. The plans must meet approval by the township’s engineer and solicitor.
“IWT will bring frac water from existing and older gas wells and treat it to become pure water,” said Supervisor Chairman William Lawhead.
The Integrated Water Technologies plant will be built in the Fireman’s Commerce Park, behind the Wal-Mart Supercenter. The water produced process will create the ability to capitalize on the treated water. “It will be sold as a by-product,” Lawhead said.
Integrated Water Technologies also has the ability to turn significantly contaminated waste water into distilled water and salt products which may be beneficial to communities.
By having this water treatment facility in town, it will allow the water to be treated on-site, rather than being shipped away, which will reduce disposal and trucking costs of the contaminated water. It will also eliminate the trucking costs of incoming fresh water.
This new water treatment plant, when it opens in about 15 months, will create the opportunity for jobs, but also provide the ability to use the salt produced from the fracking as a way to treat harsh, winter road conditions.
