LOCK HAVEN – From July 18 to 22, enterprising high school students can learn how to start and run their own business.
Lock Haven University’s NxLeveL™ Day Camp for Enterprising Entrepreneurs is a business education program designed especially for young people. It will run Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The course will be taught by Mr. Tim Keohane, director of the LHU Small Business Development Center (SBDC) and NxLeveL certified instructor, along with LHU business faculty.
Over the course of the camp, students will learn the art of business to prepare themselves to work through the various stages of business development and growth.
Dr. Cori Myers, associate professor and chair of LHU’s department of Business Administration, Computer Science, and Informational Technology, says, “In an uncertain job market, more and more young people are looking into what it takes to start their own business. The ‘Get the Buzz on Biz’ NxLeveL Day Camp will give students an understanding of the ins and outs of starting and growing a small business.”
Topics to be covered include planning and getting started, organizing and managing a business, understanding business financials, getting funding, cash management, and writing a comprehensive business plan.
All participants will receive a NxLeveL course textbook and workbook/resource guide.
SBDC Director Tim Keohane says that previous “Get the Buzz on Biz” training courses have been very successful.
“Our previous experience with this curriculum, presented locally to dozens of high school students, suggests that the upcoming summer camp offering will enable a very exciting learning opportunity for young entrepreneurs,” he said.
“We are pleased to be able to partner with the LHU’s Haven Entrepreneurial Leadership Center and the Clinton County Community Foundation to introduce and cultivate the concepts of entrepreneurial thinking and business ownership to high school students in the central Pennsylvania region.”
The camper registration fee is $100 for Clinton County residents and $150 for out-of-county residents. This fee is all-inclusive, covering all course materials, lunch and breaks, and is underwritten by the Clinton County Community Foundation Inc. and Lock Haven University’s Entrepreneurial Leadership Center.
Due to limited enrollment, early registration is encouraged. Registration forms and additional information are available from Mr. Tim Keohane at 570-484-2923, tkeohane@lhup.edu or Dr. Cori Myers at 5700-484-2274, cmyers@lhup.edu Registrants will receive confirmation and a complete packet of information with directions, camp itinerary and what to bring.
