Wilkes-Barre — Matthew Kyler received the 2011 Wrestler Recognition Award at the Pennsylvania Junior Wrestling (PJW) State Championships before the championship finals on Saturday night.
Kyler was presented the award by Robert Peters, the Area 5 Chairperson.
The award was based upon Kyler’s outstanding interscholastic and collegiate wrestling careers.
A five-time PJW state champion (1999-2003) and PIAA state champion (2006), Kyler holds the Clearfield (136-13) and West Point (146-31) all-time wins records.
The 2010 West Point grad is now a 2nd Lieutenant and coach at the United States Military Academy Prep School in Ft. Monmouth, New Jersey.
Other Clearfield Area High School grads to receive PJW Wrestler Achievement awards in the past are Bill Bailey, Mike Gill, and Scott Collins.
