Spring is definately here, folks. This is the kind of weather that gets one in the mood to go fishing, mow the lawn, or just lounge. Lounging is always nice.
There was no lounging this week for the GantDaily News Team. This last week saw a reinstated police officer facing criminal charges have his bail revoked, bids opened for a fire hall and the recommendations of a consultant to a municipality.
Readers were also given the stories of a man accused of attempted homicide, men who robbed a convenience store, and a look at the nine people running for Clearfield County Commissioner.

Judge Revokes Houser’s Bail
CLEARFIELD – A Lawrence Township police officer is in Clearfield County Jail after a judge revoked his bail Tuesday afternoon.
Matthew Houser, 29, of Clearfield, had been free on unsecured bail following an April 18 preliminary hearing for charges that he hit his then-girlfriend, a DuBois woman, on March 3.

Man Accused of Leading Police on Chase has Hearing
CLEARFIELD – A Curwensville man accused of leading police officers on a high speed chase and injuring officers on April 22 had a preliminary hearing on Wednesday. The pursuit came during a Clearfield County DUI Strike Force patrol.
Testimony during the hearing focused mainly on the incidents that are alleged to have occurred on Carbon Mine Road.

Two DuBois Men in Court on Drug Charges
DUBOIS – Two DuBois men arrested on drug charges were scheduled for court appearances on Friday.
A hearing was held for Ronald Wilber Weaver II, 26. State Trooper John Eisman testified that on May 3 a controlled buy was conducted from a residence that Weaver and co-defendant Michael Lovell Hill shared. Eisman testified that it was not the only controlled buy made from that residence.

Arts Thriving at DASD
DUBOIS – Two groups representing different facets of the arts in the DuBois Area School Area School Districts gave presentations to the school board on Wednesday night.
Fourth and fifth graders from Wasson Elementary School gave a musical presentation. Elementary school music instructor Joe Sensor said that 11 students had gone to the state capitol to perform as part of Arts & Education Day.
“It allows the legislature to see how important art education is,” said Sensor.

Bids Opened for Fourth Ward Fire Hall
CLEARFIELD – A month after agreeing to sell one firehouse, Clearfield Borough Council opened bids for the sale of another.
At April’s last council meeting, Clearfield Borough Council agreed to sell Second Ward fire hall. On Thursday night council opened bids for the sale of Fourth Ward fire hall.

Ticket Price Changes for DASD Athletic Events
DUBOIS – The DuBois Area Board of Education wants to ensure that people turn out for sporting events next year. To ensure that, people will get in to most sporting events for free during the 2007-2008 school year.
The board voted to approve not charging for athletic events in that school year. The only exception is for reserved football seating.There will be 630 seats in reserve now, and remaining seats will be available on a first come-first serve basis.

Clearfield Borough Hears Suggested Plan for Future
CLEARFIELD – Clearfield Borough held a workshop meeting Tuesday night for a presentation of the final portion of the Five-Year Plan and
Financial Management Study.
After a brief recap of the first part of the Financial Study regarding Clearfield Borough’s strengths and weaknesses, Michael Weir of Local Government Solutions LLC based in Pittsburgh outlined some basic recommendations for the borough to follow.

Cases of Two Alleged Robbery Conspirators Added to Trial List
CLEARFIELD – Two men accused of taking part in a plan to rob a Chester Hill Borough convenience store will see their cases move onto the trial list.
Nicholas Zawisa and Joshuah Kline, both of Philipsburg, were charged with aiding Michael Welder Jr., also of Philipsburg, in stealing money from Choice Convenience Store at gunpoint in January 2006.
