DUBOIS – The Sandy Township Fire Department released new information on a fire that destroyed three businesses in the Sandy Township area early Wednesday morning.
The three Oklahoma-Salem Road businesses destroyed in the fire included Cozy Acres, Diamond Auto and a Fullington Bus terminal. The report states that the structure fire began around 3 a.m.
The fire was called in around 3 a.m. by Sandy Township Police, according to the report. Units from 11 departments arrived on-scene, and included Sandy Township, DuBois, Falls Creek, Reynoldsville, Sykesville, Brady Township, Union Township, Brockway, Penfield, Lawrence Township and Grampian. Units on standby included trucks from Hyde, Lawrence Township, Curwensville and Warsaw. DuBois Red Cross, DuSan Ambulance and DuFAST also responded to the scene.
Firefighters battled the blaze for nearly five hours. No injuries were reported.
“The firefighters did an excellent job fighting the fire,” said Bill Beers Jr., Sandy Township fire chief.
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation and a damage estimate is not yet available. A Pennsylvania State Police fire marshal was on-scene Wednesday morning.
In a separate statement, Aerial Fullington-Weisman, president and CEO of Fullington Auto Bus Co. said that Fullington Trailways is up and running at 4908 Rockton Road, DuBois, to continue to serve the public.
“It’s an unfortunate situation,” said Fullington-Weisman in her statement. “We will continue to serve our public and we will give updates to the newspaper, radio and TV as things change.”
