WINGATE – Once-beaten Bald Eagle Area, in the hunt for the No. 1 seed in the District 6 Playoffs, pressured Clearfield ballhandlers all over the floor the entire game to record its 20th win, 79-39, in girls basketball action Wednesday night.
Â
The Mountain League Allegheny Division co-leaders had nearly two dozen steals with four players scoring in double figures.
Â
Anne Hoover led the way with 22 points, Brittany Butterworth had a double-double with 16 points and 10 steals and Marissa Ward and Abby Gettig added 11 and 10 points, respectively.
Â
Rachel Thompson was high for Clearfield with 12 points.
Â
Coach Joey Castagnolo moved Kristen Butler from wing into post when Breanna Peters went to the bench after five minutes, and she added seven points.
Â
Peters had twisted an ankle against Philipsburg-Osceola Tuesday and tried to go but experienced too much discomfort to continue.
Â
Clearfield also was without leading scorer and rebounder Dakota Farmery, sitting out her third game because an ankle injury.
Â
The Lady Bisons, 2-16 and 0-9 in the league, will have another long bus ride Thursday for a division game, their third in as many nights, against Central Mountain at Mill Hall.
Â
They will host Juniata Saturday in a make-up game that will be their home finale, with tip-off at 6:30 p.m.
Â
Bald Eagle Area’s undefeated junior varsity team also was victorious in the prelim.
