ST. MARYS – Kayla Hoohuli, the third leading scorer in District 9 girls basketball history and a Clearfield nemesis the last four seasons, posted the 11th 30-point game of her senior year to lead St. Marys past the shorthanded Lady Bisons 75-34 Saturday night.
Â
The two-time All American Awards and Engraving/D9Sports.com District 9 Player of the Year and 2010 All-State first teamer was on fire from the start and poured in 33 points, with eight of her 12 field goals coming from three-point territory.
Â
Hoohuli, also had eight rebounds and six assists, canned 15 points as the Lady Dutch put the first 20 points on the Dutch Oven scoreboard and raced to a 30-3 lead after one quarter.
Â
St. Marys, 16-1 and sitting atop the RRR Roadhouse/D9Sports.com District 9 Rankings, took a 40-15 lead into the second half and, with Hoohuli scoring 12 points, expanded that with a 23-9 advantage in the third quarter.
Â
Hoohuli, one her way to another District 9Â scoring crown with a 30.3 average, has increased her career total to 2,436 points.
Â
Breanna Peters provided the bulk of the Lady Bison offense with a career-high 19 points.
Â
Clearfield, already missing leading scorer Dakota Farmery and reserve forward Ciara Marsh because of injuries, lost point guard Lisa Ambuski in the first quarter. She suffered a head injury in a collision with another player and was held out of further action for precautionary reasons but has been cleared to play this week.
Â
Marsh, who sat out her second game with an arm injury, also should return Tuesday when the Lady Bisons host Philipsburg-Osceola in the first of four games in five days.
Â
Farmery’s status was to be determined after a visit to a foot specialist Monday. She was injured in the fourth quarter of Thursday’s game against Tyrone in Weiss Gym, but x-rays on her ankle were negative.
Â
The Lady Bisons, now 2-14, will travel to Bald Eagle Area Wednesday and then be at home against Central Mountain Thursday and Juniata Saturday.
Â
Because of Clearfield’s depleted roster, there was no junior varsity game.
