Police reported a single-vehicle accident at 5 p.m. Feb. 2 on state Route 350 approximately two miles south of Sandy Ridge in Rush Township, Centre County. Catherine Joann Stem, 29, of Sandy Ridge was traveling north, when her vehicle went out of control after striking patchy ice. Her vehicle slid a short distance off the east berm, where it struck a snow-bank broadsided and fast enough to overturn onto its roof. No injuries were reported as a result of the mishap. Stem was wearing her seatbelt.
Police are continuing the investigation into the death of a 65-year-old Port Matilda woman that occurred sometime between 9:40 p.m. and 12 a.m. Feb. 2 in Halfmoon Township, Centre County. The victim was reportedly discovered deceased inside her residence by a family friend. Her cause of death is believed to be accident at this time, police said.
