CLEARFIELD – With the most recent sewer project under way in Lawrence Township, the Lawrence Township Supervisors wanted to remind residents to turn in their signed easements.
Supervisor Chairman Bill Lawhead said a lot of people have not signed their easements to allow lateral line work. Lawhead said that with the project moving, people who have not signed easements are coming to the office with their signed easements. While that would normally not be an issue, Lawhead said that a couple of the people came in after the project moved beyond those residents’ properties.
“How do we want to handle this,” Lawhead asked Supervisors Glenn Johnston and Ed Brown.
Lawhead explained that in such instances if the contractor is too far beyond those homes, then the township has to foot the bill for mobilization costs.
“Do we charge for mobilization costs,” asked Lawhead. “Or just say no.”
The supervisors said that past practice in a prior phase of the sewer project was that if a person did not submit their signed easement and they had infiltration going into the sewer line, they were required at their own cost to replace their lateral line. Lawhead said the township has a right, in that instance, to go in and replace it at the landowner’s cost.
“I don’t think we should incur additional cost if they don’t sign,” said Johnston.
Lawhead was initially leaning toward the township footing that cost since the project bid came in under its projected cost. Ultimately, the supervisors agreed to go with past practice.
The next areas on the sewer project’s radar are Country Club and Susquehanna Terrace.
