Jerome”Jerry” Nevling is a life-long resident of Clearfield County, born and raised in Coalport Borough. He attended the Glendale Schools graduating in 1980, and in 1981 began working as a laborer for Benjamin Coal Company until the company closed in 1989. In 1990 Jerry started his career in law enforcement, being hired as a deputy sheriff for the Clearfield County Sheriff’s Office under Sheriff Chester Hawkins. During his career he has worked as a K-9 narcotics officer (with his partner “Jake”), Drug Task Force officer with the Attorney Generals’ Office of Pennsylvania, and Emergency Response Team Member with the Clearfield County ERT Team.
Jerry served as a part time police officer for Chester Hill Police until the department was abolished in 2003. In 2005 he worked part time in the electrical department at Lowes of Clearfield, until taking employment with the Sandy Township Police Department as a part time officer, which he worked until December 2010.
Jerry is contracted through Indiana University of Pennsylvania as a Police Instructor to teach annual updates to officers as required to maintain their certification. He also is contracted as a coordinator and instructor for the Police Academy at IUP at the Punxsutawney Campus.
As a D.A.R.E. Officer for 12 years, Jerry has reached thousands of students in schools teaching the anti-drug, anti-violence message, and in 2001 he participated in the First Legal Eagles program with founder Mark Falvo. In December 2010 Jerry took over as coordinator of the program as Mr. Falvo had to limit his involvement due to a change in employment.

- 2003 Received Special Commendation from the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania for work as a member of the Judicial Council Committee.
- 2004 Basic Swat Training – North American SWAT Team Association.
- January 31 – February 25, 2005 Completed certification course for Magisterial District Judge through the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania Minor Judiciary Education Board located in Chambersburg Pa. and was certified to hold the position of Magisterial District Judge.
- Received Special Commendation Certificate for Outstanding Service from the Office of Attorney General by Thomas Corbett Jr.
- 2005 to Present – Annual Instructor Training through Municipal Police Officers Education and Training Commission for Crimes Code, Vehicle Code and all updates to the law.
Jerry has worked with many community organizations in Clearfield County, including programs for the Boy and Girl Scouts. Fingerprinting programs with area churches, Crime Watch meetings, and volunteering with the West Branch Drama Club.
He enjoys working with the youth of his community, starting years ago as a minor league and little league baseball coach in the Four Leaf Clover League, and as a head coach for the West Branch School JV Girls Softball Team. Jerry continues to work with the local schools with the Legal Eagles Program.
Jerry has gained the experience of the courts and the civil law through his 21 years in the courtroom as a deputy sheriff, and has have worked with all agencies of the courts including, the District Attorney’s Office, Public Defenders Office, Victim Witness, Domestic Relations, Prothonotary, the Clearfield County Jail staff, and the Adult and Juvenile Probation departments to name a few.
Jerry has been a resident of Winburne since 1993, residing with his wife, the former Lori Peters of Lanse. They have three children, Bethany Nevling, and Brandon and Amanda Krause. He is an active member of St. Severin Catholic Church in Drifting, where he served as a Parish Council member and religious education teacher.
“If I am found worthy of the peoples trust in my District I will continue to educate myself on the law, and I will hold this office as a full time position, performing the duties to the best of my ability. I will also continue my commitment to the youth in the schools, and my community,” saud Nevling.
