GRAMPIAN – A Grampian man who is behind bars facing more than 30 sexual assault charges was in court Wednesday.
Robert W. Zortman, 23, is charged by Clearfield state police with four felony counts each of rape of child, statutory sexual assault, involuntary deviate sexual intercourse with a child, aggravated indecent assault of a child and indecent assault, as well as four misdemeanor counts each of indecent assault without consent, indecent assault and indecent exposure.
According to the affidavit of probable cause filed with the Houtzdale magistrate’s office, there was a forensic interview conducted on June 20, 2024 with the now teenage victim who alleged he was raped by Zortman when he was age 7 at a Grampian Borough residence.
On July 24, 2024, Zortman was questioned by police and denied all the allegations against him.
On Aug. 28, 2024, he was questioned again and reportedly admitted to having raped the victim on four, different occasions.
Zortman waived his right to a preliminary hearing Wednesday, sending his case to county court. He’s currently being held at Clearfield County Jail in lieu of $200,000 bail.
