CLEARFIELD – On Wednesday morning, the Clearfield Borough Police Department issued a warning about a fraud or scam.
According to the report, Allstate Insurance Co. contacted them about a customer who advised them that they had received a check for $4,985. Police said the customer also received a letter, stating the check was provided to assist with mandatory payment of non-Canadian residential tax.
Police said an additional payment of $250,000 would be delivered by a courier company. They said in the check and letter, Allstate was carried as the sponsoring party.
Police said Allstate has indicated to them that it is a fraud or scam. They told police that any customer who receives similar information by mail should contact their Allstate agent and the local police.
