DUBOIS – Every woman should be concerned about breast and cervical cancer.
In the United States, one in eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer during her lifetime.
In addition, if every woman would receive adequate health care, almost none would die from cervical cancer.
When these cancers are detected through screenings in their earlier stages, the outcomes can be more positive.
Breast Care Services at Penn Highlands DuBois and Penn Highlands Life’s Journey OB/GYN are conducting a free breast and cervical screening to help promote women’s health and breast cancer awareness.
The event will be held on Monday, April 22, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Imaging Services Suite in the Penn Highlands DuBois Center of Excellence located at 123 Hospital Ave., DuBois.
“Breast and cervical cancer often have no warning signs. Our free screenings are a wonderful opportunity to detect abnormalities before symptoms are present,” said Ashley Parsons, MSN, FNP, NP-C, IBCLC, NCMP, a certified registered nurse practitioner at Penn Highlands Life’s Journey OB/GYN.
“When breast and cervical cancer are found earlier, treatment has better results since the size of a tumor may be smaller and the cancer is less likely to have spread.”
A free clinical breast exam, mammogram, pelvic exam and pap smear are available to women with or without insurance who meet eligibility requirements.
