DUBOIS – The DuBois Beavers boys basketball team kept the Clearfield Bisons winless with a 48-31 victory on their home court Friday night to improve to 2-2 on the year under head coach Scott Creighton.
The Bisons under the direction of Forrest Campman drop to 0-3 on the 2010-11 campaign and continue to have offensive struggles.
Clearfield actually jumped out to a 3-2 lead early in the first quarter only to have the Beavers go on an 19-0 run that lasted until the 3:50 mark of the second period when Robbie Myers of the Bisons ended the Clearfield drought with a lay-up.
With the run by the Beavers putting them up 21-3 the Bisons engineered a run of their own, outscoring DuBois 12-3 to finish the first half down ten, 24-14. Jack Mellgard dumped in six points during the run to fuel the Bison offense.
The Bisons did get the DuBois margin down to 26-18 early in the third frame only to have their hosts go on another sizeable run to double up Clearfield after three, 40-20.
Junior Nate Liddle led all scorers with 18 points hitting on four treys. Dom Kriner had 11 to help with the Beaver offense.
For the Bisons it was Myers with 11, Mellgard eight and Curtis Frye with six.
Both teams had a light night at the charity stripe as Clearfield was 5 for 9 while DuBois only took four free throws, making just one.
The junior varsity game was actually worth the price of admission by itself as Tom Zurat’s Bison underclassmen came from ten down in the fourth quarter to win 38-36 in double overtime.
Clearfield returns to the hardwood on Tuesday evening when they host Tyrone. Junior varsity action starts at 6 pm with the varsity tilt to immediately follow.
