HOLLIDAYSBURG-The win on Wednesday night against Bellefonte for the Lady Bison of Clearfield felt like a changing of the guard, and the hope was to continue that momentum and feeling days later. The 2023 portion of the schedule came to a close Friday night when the Lady Bison took a trip to Hollidaysburg for a contest against the Lady Golden Tigers.
This night, the visitors were no match for an undefeated squad that has shown dominance all year long. From tip to buzzer, Hollidaysburg put forth a strong effort, handing Clearfield a 64-29 loss to drop the Lady Bison record to .500 on the season.
Clearfield’s biggest struggle on the night was second chances and free opportunities. The Lady Bison were a measly 7-for-15 at the charity stripe, and were getting out-rebounded on both ends of the court. This allowed Hollidaysburg to get out to a 30-13 advantage at halftime. The home squad poured it on in the third quarter, dropping 24 points to push the lead to the point that the running clock was in effect.
Clearfield’s lone player in double figure was Sonny Diehl, who accounted for 11 points. For Hollidaysburg, Bella Vent led all scoring with 19 points, while Clare Padamonsky accounted for 15.
Now, the Lady Bison (4-4) have a long rest. For the first time in as long as many can remember, Clearfield will not have a game during the Christmas break. Head coach Missy Helsel, her assistant coaches, and all the players will not be back on the court until January 3, 2024, when Clearfield plays host to the Lady Bearcats of Huntingdon. Junior varsity will tip at 6 p.m. with the varsity action to follow.
