CLEARFIELD – During Monday’s Clearfield Area School Board meeting, board members said goodbye to Tim Morgan and Phil Carr, who have served on the board for 22 and 16 years respectively.
Superintendent Terry Struble stated that it is impossible to calculate the hours they have spent working for the community.
He also thanked the families of both men who sacrificed time with them so that they could do their work for the district.
Business Manager Sam Maney presented the financial results for 2022-23. In a release provided to the media, Maney wrote:
“The Clearfield Area School District ended the 2022-23 school year with a $645,897 surplus. The district originally projected a $6,698,858 deficit for the year.
“The favorable results can be attributed to increases in local tax revenues over projected amounts, as well as state subsidy payments that were not originally budgeted coupled with considerable savings in major expense categories such as personnel, supplies and budgetary reserve.
“The district’s General Fund balance as of June 30, 2023 was $15,699,111 and included $2,863,018 of reserves restricted for debt service obligations, $6,811,067 committed for employee benefit costs and cyber-charter tuition increases, and $2,983,903 assigned for real estate tax appeals and contractual obligations.
“The food service department of the Clearfield Area School District experienced a $316,889 surplus for the 2022-23 school year. The district originally anticipated a $50,154 surplus.
“The additions surplus can be attributed to increases in special function revenues and state and federal meal subsidies. The fund balance of the Food Service Fund was $887,003 as of June 30, 2023.”
The next meeting of CASD will be Dec. 4 at 6 p.m., and will be the reorganizational meeting where the board will welcome newly-elected members.
