CURWENSVILLE – The visiting Brockway Lady Rovers (15-6) picked up a season sweep over the Lady Tide of Curwensville (6-15) in girls basketball Monday night with a 62-24 win.
Similar to the first game between these programs back on January 10, the dynamic duo of Danielle Wood and Selena Buttery for Brockway helped carry the offense, with the tandem combining for 47 of the team’s 62 points in the win. Buttery led all scorers in the contest with 33 points, including five three balls. Wood followed up with 14 points of her own.
A 14-5 lead after the first-quarter was all the momentum the Lady Rovers would need as they netted double-figures in all four periods, while limiting Curwensville to single digits in each of the four quarters.
Brockway built on their nine-point lead after the first quarter by scoring 21 points to just nine from the Lady Tide to take a 35-14 lead going into the halftime break. The second-half saw the Lady Rovers net 27 more points to just 10 more for the game from Curwensville to cruise to a 62-24 victory over their District 9 foe.
Behind the scoring performances from Buttery and Wood for Brockway was Ciara Morelli with six tallies, Lauren Rendos with five, and Kalina Powell and Madelyn Schmader with two points each.
Curwensville’s Skylar Pentz led the way for the home team with seven points, while teammate Karleigh Freyer followed her with five to her credit. Alyssa Bakaysa and Austyn Guiher each chipped in four points for Curwensville, while Kyra Henry and Savannah Carfley each added two points in the contest.
The Curwensville Lady Tide will wrap up their 2021-22 season with a showdown against backyard rival Clearfield on Wednesday, February 16. This contest will be the second matchup of the season, with the Lady Bison coming away with a 40-24 victory back on December 29, 2021 at Curwensville.
The Lady Tide will look to make it a season split, with the season finale featuring the junior-varsity contest at 6:00 p.m. and the varsity game scheduled to tip at 7:30 p.m.
