TYRONE — Reeling after three consecutive losses, including a heartbreaker in overtime, the Clearfield Lady Bison needed a jump start heading into the latter part of their season. But that meant a road trip on a cold night to Tyrone to face the one-loss Lady Golden Eagles.
That trip was one that was unpleasant heading back, as Tyrone’s dominating offense put the game away early, handing Clearfield a 50-24 loss that marked their 10th of the season, and sixth in Mountain League play.
The game started quick, as Tyrone jumped out to an early lead. Clearfield struggled on offense, but kept battling to stay close, as they only trailed by seven points after the first quarter. But, the Lady Golden Eagles turned up the offense in the second frame, showing why they have been so strong and so tough all season. Tyrone would see nearly all its starting rotation put up points, as they were averaging three points a minute. The 24-point outburst put the game out of reach for Clearfield.
Defensively, Tyrone forced turnovers and difficult shots, holding Clearfield to a pair of foul shots and one trey in the frame. Heading into the locker room, the 37-11 gap was too much to overcome. The third quarter saw the home squad hit the 30-point gap, which was enough to put the running clock into effect for the remainder of the night.
Clearfield was held to a single basket in the third quarter, as the Mercy Rule clock made the second half truly fly by.
Tyrone was led in scoring by Jaida Parker, who put up a game-high 20 points on the night. For Clearfield, Cayleigh Walker had the strong night, finishing with nine points. Clearfield was strong at the foul line, finishing 11-for-13 at the charity stripe.
Clearfield (5-10) will enjoy a lot of home cooking through the remainder of the season, as all but one game will happen inside the Bison Gymnasium. Three games are slated for next week, starting on Monday when the Lady Raiders of Bellefonte come in for another Mountain League showdown. These two teams met just a few weeks ago in Bellefonte, with Clearfield taking the 49-35 win.
Tip-off is slated for 6 p.m. for junior varsity, with varsity action to follow.
