WINGATE — After having such a strong victory on Friday night against Hollidaysburg, the Clearfield Bison, much like other teams on Monday, had their season halted because of the weather. The postponement meant the Bison had to wait to get back on the hardwood, and did so on Tuesday evening courtesy of a road trip to face off with the Bald Eagles of Bald Eagle Area.
The trip home was not one to remember, because the Bison that played on Friday were shuttered, and could not find any momentum until late in the game. At the end of the night, Bald Eagle Area pulled an upset, handing the Bison a 51-40 loss to split the season series in Mountain League action.
Clearfield kept the game close in the opening quarter, but were held to only a pair of field goals and a foul shot. Bald Eagle keyed on the leading scorer for the Bison, Cole Miller, for the entire game, holding the senior scoreless through three quarters. After the first eight minutes, Clearfield found itself down by two possessions.
The home squad began to open it up in the second quarter, taking a 20-11 lead into the locker room.
Once everyone came back out of the locker room, the Bald Eagles would soar much like their mascot. Defensively, they would keep Clearfield in check to just five points in the frame. All the while, they were taking advantage of miscues, and putting the points on the board. Bald Eagle put up 16 in the quarter to take a 36-16 advantage into the final quarter.
To their credit, Clearfield was not going quietly, as they would roar to life in the final quarter.
Miller would get on the board, but unlike other contests, he was held below double digits on the night, scoring just eight points, all in the final quarter. Isakk Way, coming off a stellar game against Hollidaysburg, led the Bison with 12 points. Clearfield would put up 24 points in the final quarter, and were forcing Bald Eagle to the foul line at certain points in the waning moments.
However, it was too little and too late for the Bison, as Bald Eagle took advantage of the free points. Of the 17 shots from the foul line the Bald Eagles had in the final quarter, they made over half to seal the game.
Bald Eagle was paced by Alex Gavlock, finishing with a game-high 17 points. Chase Thompson and Camron Watkins both accounted for another 10 points each. Of the seven players who saw minutes for Bald Eagle, only one would not get in on the scoring.
Clearfield (9-4) is back in action on Wednesday on the road again as they will make up Monday’s originally slated contest against DuBois.
