CLEARFIELD – A Clearfield couple is behind bars with charges pending following a police pursuit, Lawrence Township police say.
According to a news release, officers attempted to stop a red rocket motorcycle Wednesday in the area of Weaver Street and Rockton Mountain Highway.
The driver, identified as Richard Gearhart Jr., 44, of Clearfield was known to have outstanding warrants through the Clearfield County Sheriff’s Department.
Gearhart allegedly failed to stop and fled, leading police on a 15-mile pursuit at speeds over 100 miles per hour. It ended near Laurel Run Road in Pike Township.
At some point, police say Gearhart ditched his motorcycle to flee on foot. Later, information was received on his whereabouts and a search ensued.
He was located in a vehicle with his girlfriend, Allesia Aughenbaugh, 33, of Clearfield, who was reportedly helping him escape from police apprehension.
State police conducted a traffic stop near New Millport in Jordan Township and both Gearhart and Aughenbaugh were taken into custody.
A search of their vehicle turned up drugs and paraphernalia, according to the report. The couple was transported back to Clearfield and housed in county jail with charges pending.
Lawrence Township officers were assisted by Clearfield-based state police, Sandy Township police, Curwensville Borough police and the county’s sheriff’s department.
