CLEARFIELD – Clearfield County District Attorney, William A. Shaw, Jr. announced today that charges have been filed against a DuBois man for possessing child pornography.
Shaw identified the defendant as 30 year old Steven John Cable of Pentz Run Avenue, DuBois.
The criminal complaint, filed by Sergeant Rodney Fairman of the Sandy Township Police Department, charges Cable with 27 counts of Sexual Abuse of Children.
An affidavit of probable cause filed with the complaint states that Sandy Township Police were contacted by a woman who stated she was having a relationship with Cable. The woman stated that she and her two children stayed at Cable’s residence on Dec. 19, 2008. The woman reported that she was unable to sleep during the evening and logged onto Cable’s computer. The woman located numerous nude photos of young females and child pornography. She did
not inform Cable of her discovery.
On Jan. 9, the Sandy Township Police Department executed a search warrant at Cable’s residence and seized a Dell computer. The computer was examined by the Pennsylvania State Police Computer Forensic Unit. The examination located numerous movie files depicting adult males having vaginal intercourse with infants and pre-pubescent females.
On Sept. 24, the Sandy Township Police Department obtained a warrant for Cable’s arrest. Cable was taken into custody and arraigned by District Justice Ford. Cable was released on $50,000.00 unsecured bail. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Oct. 2
Shaw stated that “these are among the most troubling cases to prosecute. The images and nature of these types of cases are extremely disturbing.” Shaw said that child pornography has grown into a multi billion dollar industry and it is alarming to see the number of child porn cases generated here in Clearfield County. Shaw reported that he is pleased to see that law enforcement officers are aggressively investigating these types of crimes in our area. Shaw noted that “we have ongoing operations to identify and prosecute individuals who use the internet to obtain or distribute child pornography.”
