DUBOIS – Sandy Township’s 2011 draft budget was revealed to the public Monday night, and currently contains no raising of taxes in its current state.
The current draft budget comes to a total amount of $11,493,111. Liquid fuels makes up $1.2 million of the budget, the general fund makes up $3.6 million of the budget and the Municipal Authority’s budget totals $6.76 million. The previous year’s budget was $9.4 million with most of the increase coming from the Municipal Authority’s water budget. That budget rose from $2.9 million to $4.9 million.
This increase is explained by the draft budget as coming from the ongoing construction of the West Sandy Water project. This will lead to a water rate increase.
The property millage rates in this draft are slated to remain the same for a total of 15.00 mills. 12 mills goes to the general government currently, 2.5 mills goes towards fire protection, and .5 mills goes towards the library.
Sandy Township Supervisors also voted to repurpose $25,000 of their 2006 Community Development Block Grant, CDBG, funds. CDBG funds are required to be spent within five years of being given out.
The outstanding $25,000 was to go to the Adrian Furnace/Slab Furnace Waster Source Project. It was decided to use the funds for another project with the AFFWS project being held up and unlikely to use the money before the five year deadline. The money has been transferred to the Maloney Road Waterline project increasing its funding from $56 thousand to $81 thousand.
