If you’re planning a big move soon, a lot stands in the way of your finish line. Keep an eye open for some of these moving challenges you might face.
Moving is something almost everyone does at least once in their lives—sometimes, far more than just once. No matter how far you’re moving or how used to it you may be, it’s a time-consuming and often stressful process. Things pop up that complicate the endeavor all the time, and you just have to roll with the punches. So you’re ready for the next time you have to move somewhere new, check out this list of some of the biggest challenges of moving to a new house.
Proper Packing
One of the most reviled parts of moving has to be the process of packing up all your stuff. Not only do you need to gather up and transport every knickknack and scrap of clothing you’ve collected in your life, but you’ll also need to face the challenge of deciding what to take and what to leave behind. You have to sort through everything, get the boxes and bags ready, ensure you have enough packing material, and so forth. The critical thing to remember is that the more thoughtful you are when packing now, the easier it will be to unpack when you arrive at your new place.
Time Constraints
Perhaps the greatest challenge of moving somewhere new is dealing with the timing of everything. You need to make sure that your movers arrive at the same time you do and that your new place is ready when you arrive there. Plus, in the lead-up to move-in day, you like won’t have a lot of time to pack up your whole life. Get ahead of these problems by planning dates and times as soon as you know when you need to leave.
Finding Help
If there’s one thing worse than moving your own place, it’s moving somebody else’s. Even close family and friends won’t love the idea of helping you move; it just isn’t a pleasant task. Add on the reality of finding reliable movers that won’t break your stuff, and you’ve got a lot to worry about. Again, the earlier you can ask for help, the better for your friends, family, and movers. Just be sure to repay the favor when you can in the future.
Damage To Items
Nothing is more frustrating than arriving at your new home only to find that something sustained damage in the move. Some people consider this an inevitability—simply part of the moving process—but you can do your best to fight against it. Remember to pack things as tightly as you can with packing foam or bubble wrap. Try to avoid negative space in your car or truck when you start moving. Label everything clearly so that movers know what they have to be more careful with.
