CLEARFIELD – A Curwensville man is facing felony and misdemeanor charges for allegedly assaulting a woman.
Matthew Lorin Kunkle, 42, is charged by Trooper Eric Neidrick of the Clearfield-based state police with felony strangulation and misdemeanor terroristic threats, simple assault and harassment.
The charges stem from an incident that occurred during the early-morning hours Dec. 23 in Curwensville, according to the affidavit of probable cause filed with the office of Magisterial District Judge Mike Morris.
Kunkle allegedly held a knife to the victim’s throat, causing a small laceration and choked her until she was “almost out.” She said they went to bed but when she got up for a drink, he commented: “don’t think I can’t shoot you in the back of the head as you walk away.”
When Neidrick spoke with the victim on-scene Dec. 25, he reportedly observed a four-inch laceration on the left side of her neck.
On Wednesday, Kunkle had his preliminary hearing continued until Jan. 6 during centralized court. He’s currently incarcerated in Clearfield County Jail in lieu of $100,000 bail.
