DUBOIS – DuBois City Council on Monday night voted to finalize a balanced 2021 budget without any tax increase.
“It was very important,” City Manager John “Herm” Suplizio said, “because we know what 2020 was like.”
In addition, Solicitor Toni Cherry suggested that city officials abstain from any involvement in DuBois Area School District tax appeals. She said cases will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
Cherry said the city’s monies could be better spent, and appeals are likely to be lengthy and costly. She said the city should leave the DASD to cover costs of its own attorneys and experts.
She said appeals, which the city should take on, are with the “big box stores.”
Councilwoman Diane Bernardo joined the meeting via phone.
