TREASURE LAKE – Roads to Recovery recognized the dedication of two local employees at its 10th annual meeting that was held on Dec. 10 at the Lakeview Lodge in Treasure Lake.
Services are focused on the individuals and their unique journeys to recovery by providing advocacy, support and opportunities for personal growth throughout the recovery process.
Additionally, services are recovery-oriented and provided on an individual basis. The organization serves Clarion, Jefferson and Clearfield counties. Support for families of enrolled individuals is also provided.
“Peer support services are specialized interactions with peers in the community,” explained Kelly Hawkins, chief executive officer/director of Roads to Recovery.
“Certified peer specialists are trained and certified to offer support and assistance in helping others in their recovery and community-integration/re-integration process.”
Services offered also focus on cooperation and shared responsibility, helping individuals set and reach goals during the recovery process.
Certified peer specialists assist individuals in linking with services such as transportation, housing, medical, education and crisis, along with other social, spiritual and general recovery supports.
With relationships between certified peer specialists and the individuals they support being based on equality and trust, specialists are required to be focused on the needs of the individuals they assist, while also being dedicated to building a special rapport with each individual.
This first award, given to Stephanie Seidle-Weaver, is in honor of late Rev. Roger A. McBride, who exemplified the true meaning of service to humanity.
Throughout his life, McBride gave unselfishly to his fellow man, having faith that all he touched would benefit and grow.
McBride is best remembered for his ability to give his time and energy to anyone he could help. He is also the father of the founder of Roads to Recovery, Hawkins.
Hawkins, with very little to start with, has built the organization from nothing, and would attest that her drive and enlightened desire to succeed comes from the example of her late father.
The Rev. Roger A. McBride Community Leadership Award recognizes an associate within Roads to Recovery Inc. who has demonstrated outstanding leadership in the company and in the community.
Melissa Hoover, C/FST director, received the second award, which was the Founders Award of Excellence. She was recognized for her professionalism, ethical behavior and commitment to the consumers the organization serves.
