CLEARFIELD – Lawrence Township has begun the process of moving to new “digs” this week with the official ownership of its building occurring last week, the supervisors announced at Tuesday’s meeting.
For some time now, the township has been in the process of purchasing the former American Exploration/Butler Chevrolet building on the Clearfield-Curwensville Highway, and this week they began demolition and renovation of the building and have already moved most of the road crew equipment, etc.
Plans are to move the secretary and code enforcement in mid- to late-November, and hopefully have the police moved by the end of December so that everything is under one roof.
In other business, Roadmaster Ron Woodling said the new leaf vacuum will be in operation Wednesday and will do the Tuesday and Wednesday route, then resume the regular schedule.
He also reported on a letter he received from a woman requesting a “school bus turn around” sign at the Dimeling Bridge on Old Erie Pike.
He said that when the bus is preparing to pull out onto the road again, there have been some problems and near misses with vehicles traveling at a high rate of speed and not seeing the bus.
The supervisors noted that the road is a state route and they have no control over signage. The supervisors could write a letter to the state Department of Transportation, but they were doubtful that PennDOT would do anything.
Supervisor Jeremy Ruffner said he would contact the writer and discuss the situation with her.
Ruffner also said that the next meeting for the dog park committee will be Thursday at 6 p.m. at the township building on George Street. Anyone interested is welcome to attend.
