DUBOIS – DuBois City Council accepted the resignation of Mayor Randy Schmidt during Thursday’s work session meeting.
In a letter, Schmidt thanked area citizens, city employees and council members for making his past 18 years as an elected official enjoyable. He was elected as mayor in November after having spent 17 years on council.
Additionally, he plans to retire from his position with the DuBois Area School District at the end of the year. “It was a hard decision,” Schmidt wrote, “[but] I feel it’s time to slow my life down, spend time with my family.
“I would like to thank each and every one of you for your support over the years; I wish you all well on future endeavors. I feel sure I’m leaving the city in very capable hands.”
Also, on Monday night, council voted to approve Vice President Ed Walsh to serve as interim mayor. He was officially sworn into office Tuesday morning before Judge Paul Cherry.
